At the meeting with the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, the consortium of VinaCapital Group and EDF Company - a member of the French Electricity Group proposed a survey to implement a local offshore wind power project with total investment is about 13 billion USD.

Quick view

With a geographical location in the Southeast region, adjacent to the southern key economic region and having a transmission line system of 500 kV and 220 kV, Ba Ria - Vung Tau is very convenient to develop projects electricity and renewable energy projects, especially offshore wind power and LNG gas power to supply electricity to southern provinces.

Ba Ria - Vung Tau is evaluated as one of the localities with the highest wind energy potential in the country. According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, at the An Ngai wind measuring position, Long Dien district at an altitude of 80m, the average wind speed ranges from 4.7m/s to 7.9m/s and the wind speed ranges from 4.7m/s to 7.9m/s. the annual average is 6.06m/s.

At the wind gauge column of Binh Chau, Xuyen Moc district at an altitude of 80m, the average monthly wind speed ranges from 5.17m/s (October) to 7.28m/s (ladders1) and the annual average wind speed is about 6.08m/s. According to experts' assessment, the wind speed measured at these locations is within the potential for the development of wind power projects.

According to the Report on the potential of offshore wind and wave energy in Vietnam's seas by the General Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, the sea areas with the best potential for exploiting wind energy are Binh Dinh to Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan to Ca Mau and part of the central waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. In particular, the wind potential is at a good to very good level in the coastal area from Ninh Thuan to Ba Ria - Vung Tau, with an annual average wind speed of 8m/10m/s, and an average annual energy density from around 8m/10m/s. 600W to over 700W/m2.

With these characteristics, Ba Ria - Vung Tau has great attraction to domestic and foreign investors. Some large projects investing in renewable energy in the locality can be mentioned such as: HBRE Vung Tau Sea Wind Power Plant Project invested by HBRE Group with a total investment of about 1 billion USD, power projects Corio Generation's offshore wind team cooperates with FECON Group with a capacity of 500 MW…

And recently, the representative of the joint venture VinaCapital Group and EDF Company proposed to the Provincial People's Committee to survey the implementation of offshore wind power projects in the waters of Ba Ria - Vung with 4 locations, which are:

- Location 1 is 140 km from shore,

- Location 2 is 100 km from the shore, 40 km from Con Dao,

- Location 3 is 48 km from the shore,

- Location 4 - 258 km from the shore and 168 km from Con Dao.

The total investment of the project is about 13 billion USD, with a total capacity of about 3,000 MW.

According to EVN, by the end of 2021, the total installed power capacity of the whole system will reach 76,620 MW, an increase of nearly 7,500 MW compared to 2020, of which the total capacity of renewable energy sources (wind power, solar power) ) is 20,670 MW (up 3,420 MW compared to 2020) and accounts for 27.0%. Thus, the project of this consortium is equivalent to 14.5% of the total capacity of renewable energy sources in the country.

In addition, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has been approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade "Wind power development planning for the period up to 2020, vision to 2030" to identify potential areas for wind and solar power development by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. God. Accordingly, the planning target by 2025, the cumulative installed capacity will reach about 34MW with the corresponding wind power output of about 87.59 million kW/year.

Accordingly, the potential area for technical wind power development includes Cua Lap estuary area with an area of 373 ha and expected capacity of 50 MW, An Ngai 1 salt field area (An Ngai commune, Long Dien district). ) with an area of more than 242 hectares and an expected capacity of 30 MW,...

In addition, the development list of wind power projects in the period up to 2025 is considered, including An Ngai wind project in An Ngai commune, Long Dien district and Con Son wind project in Con Son bay, Con Dao district.
