The Prime Minister approved the master plan for the development of the system of airports and batteries nationwide for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, in which the formation of an international freight forwarding logistics center at the airport Chu Lai - Quang Nam.

Decision 648/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the master plan for the development of the national airport and airport system for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, which at Chu Airport Lai (Quang Nam) will form an international freight forwarding logistics center.

According to the plan, in the period of 2021-2030, the airport system is planned according to the spokesmodel with 2 main hubs in the Hanoi Capital area and the Ho Chi Minh City area. Ho Chi Minh City, forming 30 airports including:

14 international airports including Van Don, Cat Bi, Noi Bai, Tho Xuan, Vinh, Phu Bai, Da Nang, Chu Lai, Cam Ranh, Lien Khuong, Long Thanh, Tan Son Nhat, Can Tho and Phu Quoc) ;

16 domestic airports including Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Sa Pa, Na San, Dong Hoi, Quang Tri, Phu Cat, Tuy Hoa, Pleiku, Buon Ma Thuot, Phan Thiet, Rach Gia, Ca Mau, Con Dao, Thanh Son and Bien Hoa (Thanh Son and Bien Hoa airports are planned as airports for dual-use operations).

Continue to maintain the planned location of Hai Phong International Airport in Tien Lang District, City. Hai Phong was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 640 dated April 28, 2011.

Vision to 2050, forming 33 airports, including:

14 international airports: Van Don, Hai Phong, Noi Bai, Tho Xuan, Vinh, Phu Bai, Da Nang, Chu Lai, Cam Ranh, Lien Khuong, Long Thanh, Tan Son Nhat, Can Tho and Phu Quoc;

19 domestic airports: Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Sa Pa, Cao Bang, Na San, Cat Bi, Dong Hoi, Quang Tri, Phu Cat, Tuy Hoa, Pleiku, Buon Ma Thuot, Phan Thiet, Rach Gia, Ca Mau, Con Dao, Bien Hoa, Thanh Son and the second airport in the southeast, south of Hanoi capital.

Investment in flight assurance system, modernization of infrastructure and equipment at all airports to meet the requirements of ensuring safe flight operations with a long-term vision, effectively associated with the task of participating in ensuring security, sovereignty over airspace, and complying with ICAO requirements and standards.

Arrange logistics centers at airports with transport demand greater than 250,000 tons/year. Logistics centers ensure logistics conditions and connect appropriate types of traffic to transport goods at airports, including Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Van Don, Cat Bi, and Da Nang. Chu Lai, Long Thanh, Can Tho, and some other airports when there is a need to transport goods meeting the above criteria. Forming an international freight forwarding logistics center at Chu Lai Airport.

Arrange training and flight training centers with a scale suitable for domestic and regional training needs at airports with low take-off and landing density, favorable in terms of terrain, time, and location. More than 50km from the border area, priority is given to Chu Lai, Rach Gia, and Ca Mau airports.

Building aircraft maintenance and repair centers at airports in need. Prioritize the construction of aircraft maintenance and repair centers at major airports with good infrastructure and international routes including Noi Bai, Da Nang, Tan Son Nhat, Chu Lai, Cam Ranh, Can Tho, Long Thanh; Major regional repair center at Chu Lai airport.

The demand for investment capital for the development of the airport system by 2030 is about VND 420 trillion, mobilized from the state budget, non-budget capital, and other legal capital sources.
