Nam Dinh proposes to build a port of 35,000 billion VND

Recently, Nam Dinh Provincial People's Committee has proposed to build a port of 35,000 billion VND in the coastal area of ​​Nghia Hung district, expected to complete the first phase by 2030, meeting the throughput of goods from 42.6 to 48.1 million ton.

Nam Dinh Provincial People's Committee has submitted a written request to the Ministry of Transport to consider adding Xuan Thien specialized seaport to the detailed plan of seaport group No. 1 for the period to 2020, vision to 2030; Seaport group planning and detailed planning for development of land and water areas of Nam Dinh seaport in the period of 2021 - 2030.

Previously, Nam Dinh province also received Document No. 5828 from the Ministry of Transport on consulting on the proposal to add Xuan Thien specialized port to the Northern seaport group planning. At the same time, the province also received a proposal from Xuan Thien Nam Dinh Joint Stock Company to add specialized ports in Nghia Hung district to the seaport group No. 1.

According to the proposed document, by 2030, the port will be built in Nghia Hung coastal area (spatial location from Lach Giang estuary to Day estuary) with the capacity to handle cargo throughput from 42.6 to 48.1 million tons, receiving ships with tonnage up to 300,000 DWT, channel scale for ships of 100,000 DWT.

The estimated area of ​​land and water surface use in the completion stage is about 2,303 ha. Specifically, the area of ​​port land in the first phase (by 2030 to serve steel factories with a capacity of 9.5 million tons of finished products/year) is about 400ha. In the completion phase (after 2030), the usable land area will expand by about 137ha.

Regarding the size of the port (by 2030), Nam Dinh proposed planning 19 ports with:

  • 2 general ports, containers for ships up to 50,000DWT to directly serve the import of equipment during the construction and operation of the plant

  • 1 party specializes in LNG for ships of 100 - 150DWT

  • 6 specialized berths to import scrap steel and other goods for ships of 50,000 - 100,000 DWT

  • 2 coal and ore import terminals for ships up to 300,000 DWT

  • 6 berths for exporting finished steel products for ships up to 50,000 DWT

  • 2 specialized berths for exporting clinker for ships of 50,000 - 100,000 DWT

Regarding the investment progress, the first phase is expected to be put into operation before 2030 and divided into 3 phases with a total investment capital of about 35,000 billion VND.

Forms of investment include investment in new construction of wharfs, dredging of water areas, turning basins, channels, road systems, technical infrastructure, warehouses, and auxiliary works. There are also traffic works connecting sea, road, ...
