Offshore wind power project in Hai Phong continues to be implemented

This is the third meeting of Hai Phong city with the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam and the offshore wind power investment joint venture in the city.

Through the previous two meetings, Hai Phong city proposed the Prime Minister to include the offshore wind power project in Hai Phong city in the national electricity development plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045.

On the side of the investor consortium, actively complete relevant studies, work with service providers, and be ready to conduct surveys as soon as the survey license is granted.

At this meeting, the investor consortium wanted the city's support so that the project could soon be implemented, striving to be allowed to survey in 2023, complete phase 1 before 2030.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee welcomed the investor's determination to implement the project. The development of the project is in line with the strategic orientation of national energy development of Vietnam as well as Hai Phong city in terms of prioritizing the exploitation and use of renewable energy sources, and at the same time helping the city solve the problem. electricity to meet development requirements.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho suggested that the consortium investors, when researching and implementing the project, should comply with the current provisions of Vietnamese law, without affecting the navigational channels and ensuring national security. room.

At the same time, it is recommended that the investor consortium make specific reports on difficulties and problems. In addition, the Hai Phong City People's Committee asked the Department of Industry and Trade to act as the focal point and synthesize opinions of relevant departments, agencies and sectors to report to the city.

On that basis, the city's leaders will give specific instructions, consult the central ministries and branches, and speed up the project implementation procedures.

Offshore wind power projects in Hai Phong city are expected to include:

  • Total capacity: 3,900 MW

  • Divided into 3 phases, each phase 1,300 MW

  • Operating in the years 2029, 2035, 2037

  • Total investment for each phase: about 3.95 - 4.5 billion USD

  • Investment level of the whole project: 11.9 - 13.6 billion USD

  • Projected location for research: the sea off the southeast coast, about 14km from Bach Long Vi island; The Northwest is about 36km from Long Chau archipelago; 88km from Cat Ba Island; 76km from Tien Lang district; 74km from Kien Thuy district; 70km from Do Son district.

  • The estimated area of ​​the project development is about 870km2.
