Bitexco plans to invest 11 billion USD in wind power project in Bach Long Vy

Bitexco Energy Joint Stock Company has applied for the policy of surveying, monitoring and evaluating marine resources in order to prepare a feasibility study report of a wind power project with a capacity of 3,300MW in the area of ​​Bach Long Vy island, Hai Phong.

Recently, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has sent the Ministry of Transport an official dispatch on the measurement, monitoring, investigation, survey and assessment of marine resources for the wind power project in Hai Phong of Bitexco company.

Previously, on April 5, 2022, Bitexco applied for the policy of survey, monitoring and assessment of marine resources to prepare a feasibility study report for a wind power project in the Bach Long Vy island area from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. school.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has requested the Ministry of Transport to assess the suitability of the sea area proposed by Bitexco Company to study and survey with the industry planning; issues related to traffic at sea, navigation routes and other related issues in order to use as a basis for the Ministry to make decisions at the request of enterprises.

Specifically, Bitexco proposed to be assigned/recognized the sea area off Bach Long Vy island, Hai Phong on the principle of not collecting fees for using the sea area, in order to survey and serve the preparation of additional planning documents. wind power plant project on Bach Long Vy island with an expected capacity of 3,300MW.

Bitexco Energy Joint Stock Company applies to use the area of ​​​​about 60,000 hectares (equivalent to 600 km²) for 24 months starting from the date it is approved in writing by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Bach Long Vy Island Wind Power Plant Project has a scale of 3,300MW with a total investment capital of up to 256 trillion VND (~ 11 billion USD), divided into 2 phases:

  • Phase 1: capacity 800MW, expected to be put into operation in 2030

  • Phase 2: capacity 2,500MW, expected to be put into operation in 2035

According to project information, Bitexco proposes to build a 500kV/220kV substation on land in Tien Lang district, Hai Phong; 220kV station on Bach Long Vy island and deploying 500kV connection line to 500kV Hai Phong station. In addition, the company also proposes to build a 220kV underground cable line from the 220kV substation on the island to the mainland.

Currently, Bach Long Vy is the only district in Vietnam that is not supplied with electricity from the national grid because of its remote location, which cannot be brought to the shore, but must be supplied by diesel generators with a capacity of 2MW. Therefore, wind power projects are expected to provide stable electricity to serve the daily needs of people on the island.
