TPC Offshore Wind Power Generation Phase II Project (TPC II OSS Pin Piles)

Within the TPC Offshore Wind Power Generation Phase II, the pin piles play a critical role in securing and stabilizing the offshore foundation structure.

These components were fabricated with exceptional length and required strict geometric control during transportation. PPL carried out the site-move for this scope at PV Shipyard Port (Vung Tau), supporting subsequent export to Taiwan.

Goals & Scope of Work

As part of the project, the pin piles were designed with large dimensions and extended lengths, requiring a carefully engineered transportation approach to ensure structural safety and stability.

PPL executed the site-move, ensuring the safe transfer of the components from the fabrication area to the staging area in preparation for load-out.

The scope of work included moving 04 pin piles, with the longest unit measuring up to 103 meters and weighing approximately 670 tons, utilizing specialized transport equipment suited for long-length structures.

Key Challenges

The pin piles, with lengths of up to 103 meters and significant weight, required strict control of deflection and stability during movement

The tubular structure created challenges in equipment coordination and safe handling within the yard

Precise alignment was required throughout transportation to prevent structural deformation

Limited working space within the fabrication yard constrained operational planning

Tight schedule required close coordination between engineering and operations teams

Solutions & Deployment

PPL implemented the site-move plan based on detailed engineering calculations and extensive experience in handling long and heavy structures:

Utilized SPMT systems and specialized transport equipment to ensure proper load distribution along the full length of the structure

Carefully monitored and controlled deflection throughout the movement process to maintain structural integrity

Designed transportation methodology adapted to yard conditions and movement routes

Coordinated closely between engineering and operations teams to maintain schedule and minimize risks

Results & Effectiveness

The project was successfully executed, with all 04 pin piles safely transported to the designated staging area, ready for subsequent operations.

Completion of this scope contributed to maintaining the overall schedule of the TPC Offshore Wind Power Generation Phase II project, while further reinforcing PPL’s capability in handling oversized and long-length structures for offshore wind developments.
