Lac Da Vang
PPL was responsible for providing site-move and load-out services for the DLV-A-PP Jacket weighing 2,836 tons under the Lac Da Vang Project — one of Vietnam’s key offshore oil and gas developments.
Handling and transporting a structure of nearly 3,000 tons requires strong organizational capability, robust technical solutions, and a fully integrated system of specialized equipment. The project was executed with close coordination between engineering and operations teams, ensuring that all movement and load-out activities were carried out safely, accurately, and on schedule.
Goals & Scope of Work
The Lạc Đà Vàng (Block 15-1/05) project represents a significant milestone in offshore energy development, aimed at optimizing national oil and gas extraction capabilities. As a specialist partner, PPL was entrusted with the critical transportation engineering for the project's primary offshore structure.
Our role was to deliver a seamless, high-integrity heavy-lift solution for the jacket structure, ensuring a flawless transition from the fabrication facility to the designated marine transportation vessel. This project underscores PPL’s core expertise in managing complex logistics for ultra-heavy, out-of-gauge (OOG) assets within high-stakes, time-sensitive industrial environments.
Key Challenges
Massive Payload Management: Handling a 2,836-ton jacket required sophisticated load-bearing strategy and specialized heavy-lift equipment to maintain structural safety.
Structural Integrity: The complex geometry and non-symmetrical center of gravity necessitated rigorous engineering calculations to prevent stress during the move.
Load-Out Precision: The transfer process demanded extreme dimensional accuracy to ensure safe structural alignment between the fabrication quay and the barge.
Dynamic Environmental Factors: Operations were subject to strict tidal windows and environmental conditions, requiring precise scheduling and contingency planning.
Solutions & Deployment
Advanced SPMT Configuration: Deployed a high-capacity Self-Propelled Modular Transporter (SPMT) system to ensure optimal weight distribution and stability across the entire site-move path.
Engineered Load-Out Strategy: Developed a custom transport plan, integrating hydro-ballast calculations and alignment protocols to manage the vessel-to-quay interface effectively.
Rigorous Technical Oversight: Implemented real-time monitoring of hydraulic parameters, axle loads, and structural stability throughout the load-out operation.
Operational Synergy: Streamlined the collaboration between engineering, technical support, and site operations to mitigate risks, maintain critical path milestones, and ensure project success.
