Z189 Platform - Shipbuilding industry
Goals & Scope of Work
The Z189 Loadout Project was implemented to transport and launch large steel structures serving the shipbuilding industry, preparing for export to international markets.
PPL carried out site-move, load-in and load-out operations, including transporting and transferring two platform structures (Platform A & B) from the fabrication area to the quay and executing load-out onto a barge.
The scope involved handling oversized and heavy cargo with significant weight:
Platform A: approximately 923.64 tons
Platform B: approximately 950.04 tons
Key Challenges
Platform structures weighing close to 1,000 tons per unit, requiring strict control of stability and load distribution
High precision required during load-out operations from yard to barge
Coordination required between SPMT systems, supporting equipment and barge throughout execution
Site conditions at the quay affected by tidal variations
Strict safety control required during launching of large structures
Solutions & Deployment
PPL implemented the load-out plan based on detailed engineering calculations and extensive project experience:
Utilized SPMT systems to transport the platforms, ensuring load distribution and operational stability
Designed load-out and launching methods suitable for quay and barge conditions
Closely monitored key technical parameters such as center of gravity, tilt and load distribution throughout the operation
Ensured coordinated execution among engineering, operations and site teams to maintain schedule and safety
Supervised the entire process to ensure high precision at every stage
The successful execution of the project further demonstrates PPL’s capability in delivering large-scale load-out operations in Vietnam.
