Goals & Scope of Work

  • The TPC OSS Topside is a key component of the offshore substation system, playing a critical role in transmitting and distributing power from offshore wind farms to onshore grids.

  • PPL carried out site-move and load-out for the topside at PV Shipyard Port (Vung Tau), ensuring the safe transfer from fabrication yard to marine transportation.

  • The scope included handling one oversized and heavy topside structure, utilizing SPMT systems for transportation within the yard and executing load-out onto a barge in accordance with technical requirements and tidal conditions.

Key Challenges

  • The topside structure weighs approximately 4,000 tons, requiring specialized transport and load-out solutions

  • Large dimensions with a complex center of gravity, demanding precise calculations for load distribution and stability control

  • The transport route followed a complex S-shaped path within the yard, with tight turning radii requiring precise SPMT coordination and structural stability throughout the movement

  • Limited working space within the yard, affecting equipment arrangement and operational planning

  • Load-out operations highly dependent on tidal conditions, requiring precise timing and coordination

  • Tight project schedule requiring seamless coordination between engineering and operations teams

Solutions & Deployment

  • PPL implemented the site-move and load-out plan based on detailed engineering calculations and practical experience in large-scale energy projects:

  • Mobilized 156 axle lines of SPMT to transport the topside, ensuring proper load distribution and operational stability

  • Developed a transport method tailored to the S-shaped route under constrained yard conditions

  • Planned load-out operations in alignment with tidal conditions to ensure safe and accurate transfer onto the barge

  • Closely monitored key technical parameters such as center of gravity, tilt and load distribution at each stage

  • Ensured coordinated execution among engineering, operations and site teams to maintain schedule and minimize risks
     

The successful execution of the project further demonstrates PPL’s capability in delivering large-scale load-out operations in Vietnam.
