Greater Changhua Offshore Wind Farm 2204 - CHW2204
Goals & Scope of Work
As part of the Greater Changhua Offshore Windfarm 2b & 4 (CHW2204) project, PPL delivered transportation, site-move, load-in and load-out services for offshore wind foundation structures, including Transition Pieces (TP), Upper Jackets (UJ), Lower Jackets (LJ), Part II (TP+UJ), Suction Buckets (SB) and Suction Bucket Jackets (SBJ), at the PTSC Industrial Energy and Technical Logistics Center. The works were executed in accordance with international safety, quality and operational standards to support the export of offshore wind components to Taiwan.
The total cargo handled reached approximately 70,000 tons of steel, comprising more than 800 components weighing from 350 MT to 2,387 MT per unit, across a storage and handling area of approximately 120,000 m².
Notably, the Suction Bucket Jacket (SBJ) structures measured between 76 m and 84 m in height and weighed between 2,000 MT and 2,200 MT per unit. PPL successfully transported and delivered a total of 33 SBJ structures as part of the project.
Key Challenges
- Handling oversized structures with individual weights reaching up to 2,387 tons.
- Managing complex structural geometries and uneven centers of gravity requiring precise transport engineering and load distribution planning.
- Ensuring high-precision load-in and load-out operations for safe transfer and export activities.
- Complying with stringent international offshore wind project safety, quality and technical standards.
Solutions & Deployment
PPL deployed SPMT-based transportation solutions supported by dedicated engineering and operations teams to manage the movement of oversized and heavy structures throughout the project.
Customized load-in and load-out methodologies were developed for each structure category to ensure proper load distribution, transportation stability and compliance with project technical requirements.
Through close coordination among engineering, operations and site teams, PPL successfully completed the entire scope of work safely, on schedule and in full compliance with project quality standards.
