Comprehensive Logistics Solutions for Offshore & Onshore Projects

Vietnam is emerging as one of Southeast Asia’s most promising wind energy markets, particularly with the rapid growth of offshore wind power. This trend is driving significant demand for oversized and heavy-lift transportation—requiring advanced logistics capabilities, modern equipment, and proven project experience.

PPL provides end-to-end logistics solutions for wind power projects, with the capability to execute both onshore and offshore operations, including large-scale international projects.

Wind Power Development Potential in Vietnam

Vietnam has substantial wind energy potential, with approximately 24 GW onshore capacity and hundreds of GW offshore. With an average wind speed of around 7.2 m/s, the country is considered one of the most favorable wind regions globally. The participation of major developers such as Ørsted, Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, and Goldwind is accelerating market growth while raising the bar for project logistics standards.

Wind Equipment Transportation Characteristics

For onshore wind projects, equipment is typically transported from manufacturing sites by sea to ports, then delivered by road using multi-axle hydraulic trailers and high-capacity prime movers to project sites. A 30 MW wind project may require hundreds of transport movements and specialized vehicles.

Offshore wind projects are significantly more complex due to larger component sizes and multimodal transport requirements. Components such as blades over 80 meters long or nacelles weighing hundreds of tons are transported using specialized vessels such as heavy-lift vessels or jack-up vessels. The process requires close coordination between ports, vessels, and offshore installation, and is highly dependent on weather conditions.

Key Wind Power Components

Wind power projects involve multiple oversized and heavy-lift components, including blades, nacelles, towers, hubs, and transformers. Offshore projects additionally require transport of monopiles, jacket foundations, offshore substation topsides (OSS), and subsea cable systems—each requiring specialized transport methods and lifting solutions.

Logistics Requirements for Wind Projects

Wind equipment transportation requires a structured process, including route surveys, infrastructure assessment, technical planning, permit acquisition for oversized cargo, and traffic coordination. Port handling operations require heavy-lift cranes and specialized equipment, supported by project management systems to ensure schedule control and risk mitigation.
