Lac Da Vang Project
PPL was responsible for providing site-move and load-out services for the DLV-A-PP Jacket weighing 2,836 tons under the Lac Da Vang Project — one of Vietnam’s key offshore oil and gas developments.
Handling and transporting a structure of nearly 3,000 tons requires strong organizational capability, robust technical solutions, and a fully integrated system of specialized equipment. The project was executed with close coordination between engineering and operations teams, ensuring that all movement and load-out activities were carried out safely, accurately, and on schedule.
Goals & Scope of Work
The Block 15-1/05 Lac Da Vang Project is a major offshore oil and gas development, with the primary scope involving the fabrication and installation of a jacket structure for offshore operations.
PPL participated as the service provider for site-move and load-out of the DLV-A-PP Jacket, ensuring the safe transfer of the structure from the fabrication yard to the marine transportation system.
The scope of work included moving the oversized and heavy structure within the fabrication yard, utilizing SPMT systems for transportation, and performing load-out onto a barge in accordance with project technical requirements.
Key Challenges
- The DLV-A-PP Jacket has a massive weight of up to 2,836 tons, requiring specialized transportation and load-out solutions
- Large structural dimensions and complex center of gravity required precise calculations for movement and load distribution
- Load-out operations demanded high accuracy to ensure safe transfer from the fabrication yard onto the barge
- Execution conditions at the yard and jetty were influenced by weather and tidal factors
Solutions & Deployment
PPL implemented the site-move and load-out plan based on detailed engineering calculations and close coordination with all stakeholders:
- Utilized SPMT systems to transport the jacket structure, ensuring proper load distribution and stability during movement
- Designed load-out methodology tailored to yard and jetty conditions to ensure safe transfer operations
- Closely monitored key technical parameters such as center of gravity, inclination, and load distribution throughout execution
- Coordinated effectively among operations, engineering, and site teams to maintain schedule and minimize risks
