Vietnam will increase wind power and reduce the scale of gas power

09/09/2022

277/TB-VPCP of the Government Office on the conclusion of the Government Standing Committee on Electricity Planning VIII, which directs the Ministry of Industry and Trade to reduce the scale of gas power and increase wind power sources accordingly.

Quick view

Accordingly, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is required to continue to complete the National Power Development Plan for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045 (Electricity Planning VIII); in which focus is on reviewing towards reducing coal power source planning by 2030.

In addition to the projects that have been removed and not included in the Power Plan VIII as reported, the Ministry of Industry and Trade must continue to work with the investors of other coal-fired power projects under construction. However, there are currently many difficulties to discuss and agree on whether to continue or not.

In addition, it is necessary to further calculate the scale of electricity imports from neighboring countries, especially from Laos, to increase the scale of development of biomass and hydrogen power sources.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade reviewed the feasibility of thermal power projects using domestic gas. At the same time, calculate and reduce the scale of imported LNG gas power capacity by 2030 and increase wind power with an appropriate and feasible scale.

Wind power and solar power are accounting for nearly a quarter of the total capacity of Vietnam's power sources, reaching about 21,000 MW, which is also a clean energy source in the future.

The output of these power sources reached 31.5 billion kWh, equivalent to nearly 12.3% of the electricity output of the whole system. In the first six months of the year, this figure increased to about 15% of the system's electricity output.

The output of solar power and wind power reached nearly 12.3% of the electricity output of the whole system.

Regarding the planning of solar power sources in the period until 2030, according to the Standing Government, it is necessary to continue to review to ensure the main economic efficiency, to avoid causing economic damage, especially the unreasonable calculation of electricity prices. . Besides, don't legitimize the wrong. Thoroughly research and evaluate the impact of rooftop solar power sources for self-use purposes, not sold into the national power system...

Previously, the Ministry of Industry and Trade had submitted a report to the Government's Standing Committee on issues of Power Planning Project VIII. In particular, on the issue of solar power, the Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed that the Government continue to allow the deployment to put into operation in the period up to 2030, projects, or parts of projects that have been planned, have been approved. approved for investors but not yet operational with a total capacity of approximately 2,430 MW.

“Because, pushing back these projects after 2030 may face problems of social order and security, legal risks and compensation for investors.

After that, if the inspection and examination agencies detect violations, they will be strictly handled according to the provisions of law. In case of serious violations, even withdrawing the investment license, suspending the project according to the provisions of the law on construction investment "- the Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized.
